The organiser of the exhibition INSIDE OUT in Varazdin Blazenka Soic Stebih wrote in the catalogue:
“I first met Waltraut Gschiel at an international ceramics symposium inInnsbruck, and that meeting led not only to a fabulous friendship but to quite a productive cooperation. One might tend to see us as rivals but, in the spirit of the international Academy of Ceramics in Geneva, we strove from the very beginning to cultivate a climate of mutual respect and gracious rapport within the international ceramics community; each in her own way of course. The Biennale in Kapfenberg has already opened the door to these efforts with its cooperation with the Museum Westerwald and will be the special guest this year in Varazdin. Varazdin is a picturesque town in northern Croatia that is not only known for its Baroque music evenings and street festival, but it is a town has become renowned for ceramics and the CERAMICA MULTIPLEX, its international festival of postmodern ceramics. More then ten years ago a group of ceramics enthusiasts, with Gustav Weiss, the European ceramics legend and me leading the way founded an association called KERAMEIKON, Croatian Ceramic Association. Through its activities it has gained international acclaim. The7 th Kapfenberg Ceramics Biennale will be the special guest in December 2011 in Varazdin. In return KERAMEIKON will be present the works of the IV International Festival of postmodern Ceramics CERAMICA MULTIPLEX, which will be taking place from 25 August to 31 October in the autumn of 2012 in Kapfenberg. The motto of our cooperation shall always remain: the better we get to know each other, the better we will all get along”. |
